Discipleship Bible Course

A new one-off discipleship Bible course open to all this Autumn started on Sunday 6th October at 19:30pm. If you would like to come and join us you are most welcome. Here are a few details of the course, 'Perfected in Love.'

Perfected in Love

Discovering God in 1 John

According to the Apostle John, ‘God is love’.  So why is love lacking in our experience as Christians? We often struggle to love others and we can feel unloved ourselves. As we look into John’s First Letter we’ll be getting to grips with His love so we can grow in our own, considering how we can be sure of salvation, and reminded we are His children going home.

1.Approaching the God of light – 1 John 1:1 - 2:1 – Sunday 6th October

God can seem distant. How can we be reminded of what he’s like? How can we be certain of his forgiveness? Are we walking in His light?

In this study we’ll consider these questions and look at how the answers should impact our lives and change our relationships with other Christians.

2.Objects of our affections – 1 John 2:3 - 2:27 – Sunday 13th October

This session will focus on what John calls God’s new, old command: to love one another.  So often our love for others is lacking. We’ll explore the implications of failing to love each other, as well as the tension between love for the world and love for people.

3.What is Love? – 1 John 2:28 - 3– Sunday 20th October

For unbelievers this question is at best an enigma. By God’s grace Christians bear witness to the answer; we know what love is. But what difference should this love make to our lives? Put simply, how should we love one another?

4.Relying on love – 1 John 4:1 - 5:4a – Sunday 3rd November

For God’s love to be perfected in us, we need more than ‘head-knowledge’. We need his Spirit within us; his power to love. This study will centre on how we can rely on this love and consider the knock-on effect for our relationships with others.

5.Know you have eternal life – 1 John 5:4b - 5:23 – Sunday 10th November

In this final chapter John says, ‘faith overcomes’. In the closing session we’ll be thinking about eternity as more than a vague hope, but as a certain reality. To move towards perfection in love, we need to keep in mind the goal.

Anniversary Service, Sunday 29th September.

Remember this...

The Arena, (in construction above), was completed at The Ark 10 years ago on this week. Before the building of the Arena the congregation used to meet in the Auditorium.

Please join us on this special Sunday as we look back with gratitude and look forward with expectation for the next 10 years! Pastor Greg Bridges, previously a leader at The Ark, will be our guest preacher.

You are invited to stay into the early afternoon as their will be food and an opportunity to chat to others. Everyone welcome.

We will also be having an extended prayer time before our morning service, from 9:30-10:00am which will take the place of our Prayer Breakout event in the evening.

Watoto Visit

Yet another exciting lively/colourful presentation by the Watoto Children's Choir, on this, their second visit to The Ark.The presentation called "Beautiful Africa" portrayed something of Africa's natural wildlife and colourful variety of life, but also highlighting the plight of thousands ravaged by disease and poverty. There were moving testimonies from young children as to the personal dire circumstances of their own lives, some having lost both parents, others abandoned, and yet now standing before us healthy and with beaming faces could speak of the hope they have found in the Living Lord Jesus Christ.

So many made themselves available and used their varied abilities to make this happen, which our God has seen, (Matthew ch10v42).

The evening was so well convened by Pastor David Cason, who with the leader of this children's choir "Sam"  gave a clear informative talk on the  work of this inspired Children's Charity, who currently care for 2700 children, and how sponsorship or giving can sustain and rescue young lives. More information on the choir can be found on their website www.watoto.com

A total of £1055 was raised on the evening.
